8d. Parachute Canisters   

The F-18 Jet Bike is small and light.  Thus, the proper size parachute (the red fabric) to slow it down from 250 mph at the end of the quarter mile is only four foot in diameter.  Bob is holding the pilot chute and its internal ejection spring system in his other hand.  It all fits fine in a 6" diameter, 12" long aluminum canister.  Chip is holding one of the small horizontal elevators that will be attached to the parachute canister. 

The chute is inserted and there is still plenty of room for the pilot chute.

(Note: There are two identical parachutes mounted in separate canisters to the F-18.  One is the MAIN chute, the other is a BACKUP chute for emergency purposes only.)
