YES! The obvious reasons:

#1 - Clean, easy to distribute, electric power instead of the need for the self-contained portability of fossil fuel power.
#2 - 10% of the energy used by cars to move you each mile.
#3 - 6% of the raw materials by weight used to build cars to build each SkyTran vehicle.
#4 - SkyTran's light weight and low power requirement enables cost effective SOLAR POWER implementation.  ZERO carbon footprint.  Future 100% off the grid electric, 100 MPH, non-stop transportation!  The cost to provide adequate SOLAR POWER for accelerating and driving 100,000 pound "light" rail vehicles is still prohibitive. A "light" rail trolley will require 160 times more power than a SkyTran pod at gross weight. That means 160 times the amount of solar panels!

State sues EPA for immediate action on global warming. 
Fourteen other states stand with California in its push for tighter tailpipe emissions standards

... Arguing in a lawsuit filed yesterday, California and 16 other states are demanding urgent action on global warming from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency.

In California, scientists predict global warming will reduce the mountain snow packs – the state's largest source of water – while rising sea levels will submerge coastal homes and erode beaches. Warmer temperatures will wither crops that can't survive in longer, hotter summers. Wildfires will char forests.

About a third of the state's greenhouse gas emissions come from cars, pickups and sport utility vehicles, a figure that will only grow if they are not regulated and the nation's largest state continues to attract millions more new residents.
