Ingress/Egress Ergonomics: SkyTran will be much easier to get in and out of than an automobile.  First of all, when boarding at a station, the SkyTran seat height is ergonomically positioned to be exactly at standard chair height above the ground.  Also, one will not have to lower themselves over a ridge and down into the seat as required in the typical automobile.  And unlike a car, the hinged door will not be partially blocking the entryway as a person places his legs inside to sit down (or swings them out to stand up).

One critical aspect of the SkyTran invention: Most mass transportation systems envisioned by others cannot easily go up or down in short distances, so optimizing travel height for the convenience of the passengers, while maintaining an essential minimum clearance above all normal surface traffic during high speed travel is impossible.  An important part of the SkyTran invention is this ability to move up and down in the third dimension in a short distance.

As can be seen earlier, and to the left, it is planned to always have several two-passenger SkyTran vehicles waiting and ready at each station - a person just walks up, gets in and goes.  No more waiting for a scheduled bus or train and no more rushing to make the bus or train's scheduled time.

Relax and leave the driving to your 100% attentive computer chauffeur:   Once boarded, a SkyTran pod becomes the passenger's private vehicle. The passenger decides exactly where they want the computer chauffeur to take them.  No stopping at each station to let some people off and new people on. No more concerns about unsavory types riding along with you.  A SkyTran vehicle travels overhead on a monorail freeway, safely above all other traffic and only exits this freeway to slow down and stop at your selected destination station.

It is also important to note that your computer chauffeur will never be distracted by billboards, cell phone calls, conversation, reaching over to change music stations, etc. Nor will your chauffeur ever be driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The above Photo Tour shows the generic two place SkyTran vehicle.  However, just as there are many different types of vehicles on the roads, there will be numerous types of SkyTran vehicles as described below.

Type Vehicle Description Utility
PUBLIC Two passenger This is the basic SkyTran vehicle that comprises 90% of the fleet.  It has room for two people and their briefcases/small packages.
Single passenger with bicycle carrier Designed to accommodate one passenger and his/her bicycle inside the SkyTran vehicle.
Single handicapped passenger in wheelchair Specialized roll-in vehicle for transporting people in their wheel chairs.
Single passenger plus 250 pounds cargo Ideal for the single passenger travelling with large baggage, such as someone going to or from an airport.
Pure cargo vehicles with 500 pound payload These vehicles would be available for any individual or business who  needs to quickly receive or deliver up to 500 pounds of goods.
Ambulance A fast way to get a patient right to a hospital emergency room.  Would feature full paramedic monitoring equipment.
PRIVATE Two passenger These privately owned vehicles feature custom amenities such as leather upholstery, stereo systems, TV's, Internet, etc.
Single passenger with bicycle carrier Same as above, but a bicycle storage compartment behind the passenger seat.
Single handicapped passenger in wheelchair Customized personal roll-in vehicles for transporting people in their wheel chairs.  These vehicles could provide special care functions.
Single passenger plus 250 pounds cargo Privately owned vehicle featuring custom amenities and large baggage capacity.
Pure cargo vehicles with 500 pound payload Companies such as UPS, FedEx, the Post Office and numerous couriers would own and use these vehicles for fast, efficient parcel pick-up. routing and delivery on the SkyTran track system.

Group and Family Travel

Any combination of the above vehicles can be joined electronically, rather than mechanically, to travel along as if it was one single vehicle.  Occupants of all vehicles in such a convoy will all be able to continuously communicate with each other.

SkyTran enables you to customize the capacity needed at any moment to the size of your group.  It is nonsense and very inefficient to own a large vehicle that will seldom be  used at its full capacity and at the same time has occasional  inadequate capacity.
